The Arun Jaitley stadium pitch report

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is one of the selected stadiums in India where numerous important international matches along with domestic matches are played. Additionally, matches of the Indian Premier League and the Women’s Premier League are also hosted on this ground. This stadium is located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi.

Previously known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket stadium, the Modi government renamed it in honor of former Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley. Therefore, it is currently known as the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Through this article, we are going to learn about the pitch report of this stadium along with many other things.

Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi Pitch Report

This Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is primarily known for bowlers. Spin bowlers particularly benefit from the conditions on this ground. The pitch here is quite slow, and the ball tends to stay low, resulting in relatively low scores in any format, with bowlers dictating terms almost every time. It’s quite challenging for batsmen to excel on this pitch. However, post the 2023 World Cup, there have been some changes observed in this pitch, and on several occasions, batsmen have shown their prowess. Nevertheless, this pitch still favors the bowlers.

The recent match played on this ground was the final of Women’s Premier League Season 2, WPL 2024. The match featured Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru). It was a low-scoring affair, with Delhi Capitals managing to score only 113 runs despite batting first and getting all out. During their innings, nine female players from Delhi fell victim to spin bowlers, while one player lost her wicket to a run-out. Chasing the target of 114 runs wasn’t easy for RCB either, and they also struggled with their batting, eventually winning the match in the 20th over.

Speaking of the last IPL match played on this ground, it was during the 2023 season between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, where Punjab Kings emerged victorious by 31 runs. This match was also very low-scoring. Punjab Kings posted a total of 167/7 while batting first, and despite Delhi Capitals’ efforts, they could only manage to score 136/8 while chasing. Therefore, there is an expectation of low-scoring matches on this ground in IPL 2024 as well, where bowlers could dominate.
