Glenn Maxwell – 201* vs Afghanistan

The first name in the top memorable moments of the Cricket World Cup 2023 is the double century by Glenn Maxwell, which was witnessed against the Afghanistan team. In the 2023 World Cup, Glenn Maxwell played an unbeaten innings of 201 runs against the Afghan team, which he played in the most difficult situation, and that’s why his name comes at the top.

Actually, Australia’s start was quite poor in match number 39 of the 2023 World Cup as they were chasing Afghanistan’s target of 291 runs. They had lost 4 wickets for just 49 runs. Then Maxwell stepped onto the field. Despite continuous wickets falling, at one point, the Australian team was struggling at 91 runs with seven wickets down.

However, standing strong on the other end, Glenn Maxwell refused to give up. With his aggressive style, he scored 201 runs with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes on just 128 balls, leading the team to a magnificent victory with 3 wickets remaining.

Virat Kohli 50th Odi Century

The second most memorable moment of the Cricket World Cup 2023 is Virat Kohli‘s 50th ODI century, which he scored against the New Zealand team in the semi-final match. King Kohli made a huge record by scoring 117 runs with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes in 113 balls while batting first in the first semi-final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. With this century, he surpassed the legendary Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who has 49 ODI centuries to his name. Also, he has become the first batsman in cricket history to score 50 centuries in the ODI format.

Speaking of the match, India scored 397/4 thanks to the magnificent centuries of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer (105), while New Zealand could only manage to score 327 runs in reply. With this, India entered the final by winning the match by 70 runs, although they had to face defeat there.

Mohammed Shami – 7 Wickets vs New Zealand

In the top moments of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Mohammad Shami’s spell of 7 wickets is also included, which he took in the semi-final match against the New Zealand team. Shami had taken 7 wickets by giving away 57 runs in the first semi-final match of the World Cup 2023 against New Zealand, most of which were the top-order batsmen of the Kiwi team. It was because of his lethal bowling that India secured a spot in the final under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

In the semi-final match, India had scored 397/4 runs with a splendid century by Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) while batting first. New Zealand lost their first two wickets for 39 runs, taken by Mohammed Shami. However, thereafter, Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson took the team’s score beyond 200 without losing any wickets. This made India’s defeat seem quite possible.

However, Shami then made a comeback by dismissing Williamson and Tom Latham at 220, leading to India’s resurgence, as the Kiwi team collapsed at 327 runs in 48.5 overs. With this, India managed to match the competition, trailing by 70 runs. Shami’s spell is the best in his ODI career and has also become the best spell in any World Cup semi-final.

Travis Head – 137 vs India in Final

The fourth name in the list of top moments of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is Travis Head’s magnificent century, which was witnessed in the final match against India. This century will not be as memorable for Indian fans because it was the reason India could not win the ICC World Cup trophy even after 12 years. In that match, Head’s innings of 137 runs was seen, which is also counted among the best innings of the 2023 World Cup.

In the final match, India managed to score a total of 240 runs while batting first, with KL Rahul playing the highest innings of 66 runs. However, he faced quite a few balls. While chasing India’s target, Australia lost their initial 3 wickets for just 47 runs. But on the other end, Travis Head was steady and continued batting till the end. During his innings, he scored 137 runs with the help of 15 boundaries and 4 sixes off 120 balls. Thanks to Head’s brilliant innings, Australia managed to chase the target in the 43rd over and claimed the World Cup trophy for the sixth time.

Afghanistan team 1st odi win vs Pakistan

The fifth top moment of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is the historic victory of the Afghanistan team, which they achieved against their biggest rival Pakistan. This win by the Afghan team was not the contribution of any one individual player but the entire team.

In the match between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Pakistan had scored 282/7 while batting first. During this period, Noor Ahmad took the most 3 wickets, while Naveen-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nabi, and Azmatullah Omarzai took 2, 1, 1 wickets respectively. Just like the Afghan bowlers, the Afghan batting also shared the challenge. While chasing 283 runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87) had given the team a good start.

However, both got out at the score of 190. But in the end, Rahmat Shah scored 77 and Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 48 runs to clinch the victory. With this win, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan for the first time in a One Day International match. They also set a record for winning in the World Cup against Pak.
