Costliest XI from the IPL 2024 Auction

Costliest XI from the IPL 2024 Auction

The IPL 2024 auction unfolded under the dazzling lights of Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena on December 19. Departing from the traditional Indian venues, this edition witnessed a paradigm shift in the pursuit of top-tier talent.

Kolkata Knight Riders emerged as the big spenders, investing INR 31.35 crore to secure 10 players. Their audacious move of INR 24.75 crore for Mitchell Starc set a new record, making him the costliest player in IPL history. Here is the costliest XI from the IPL 2024 auction:

Openers – Rilee Rossouw and Travis Head

Punjab Kings purchased Rilee Rossouw for a price of INR 8 crore from his base price of INR 2 crore. They fought a hard battle at the auction table with Delhi Capitals for Rossouw. Rossouw is an experienced batter and has played in almost all the T20 leagues around the world. He has amassed almost 8000 runs in T20s at a strike rate of 144.84.

Travis Head was predicted to grab a lot of eyes at the auction table, and that is what happened when his name was brought up. Sunrisers Hyderabad had an intense battle with Chennai Super Kings and managed to close the deal for INR 6.8 crore. Head had a great outing in the ODI World Cup with the bat and could play a crucial role for Sunrisers.

Top and Middle Order – Sameer Rizvi, Kumar Kushagra (wk), Shubham Dubey

We have gone for a relatively inexperienced top and middle order. But the three players we picked were brought by the franchises for a huge sum because of their performance in domestic cricket. This is the reason we have shown trust in these three youngsters.

Rizvi was the highest run-scorer for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 277 runs in seven matches at an average of 69.25 and a strike rate of 139.89. He is popularly called right-handed Raina and was picked by Chennai Super Kings for a price of INR 8.4 crore.

Kumar Kushagra, the 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand, was snapped by the Delhi Capitals for a price of INR 7.2 crore. He is known for his power-hitting and might be a regular in the Capitals’s playing 11 in case Rishabh Pant is not fit to keep wickets.

Shubham Dubey was the second-highest run-scorer for Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 221 runs in seven games at a strike rate of 187.28. Rajasthan Royals shelled out INR 5.8 crore to pick Dubey in the squad.

All-rounders – Shahrukh Khan, Pat Cummins (C), Harshal Patel

Shahrukh Khan is one of the most exciting domestic talents and was expected to draw a big paycheque in the IPL 2024 auction. Gujarat Titans picked him for INR 7.4 core from his base price of INR 40 lakh. They were involved in a hard-fought battle against the Punjab Kings. Shahrukh has made 928 runs in 83 T20 matches at a strike rate of 133.52.

Pat Cummins has been named the captain of this costliest XI from the IPL 2024 auction. The Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him for a price of INR 20.5 crore. Cummins led the Australian team to an ODI World Cup victory recently and was expected to draw a lot of eyeballs at the auction table. He has 143 wickets in 128 T20 matches at an average of 26.67.

Punjab Kings had to shell out INR 11.75 crore to pick Harshal Patel in the IPL 2024 auction. He finished as the leading wicket-taker for Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 19 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 20.47 and helped them win the tournament. Harshal has taken 111 wickets in 91 IPL matches at an average of 24.07 and was the purple cap winner in 2021.

Bowlers – Mitchell Starc, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav

Mitchell Starc became the highest-paid player in the IPL 2024 auction. Kolkata Knight Riders picked Starc for a price of INR 24.75 crore. He has taken 170 wickets in 121 T20 matches at an average of 19.54.

Shivam Mavi has taken 30 wickets in 32 matches in IPL at an average of 31.40, an economy of 8.71, and a strike rate of 21.63. Lucknow Super Giants bought him for a price of INR 6.4 crore.

Umesh Yadav was the leading wicket-taker for Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked 15 wickets in six matches at an average of 11.93. He had the third-best average among the bowlers who picked 15 or more wickets in the tournament. Umesh has played over 140 matches in IPL and has taken 136 wickets at an average of 30.04. Gujarat Giants picked him for a price of INR 5.8 at the auction table. Interestingly, this is the first time a team has paid more than INR 5 crore for Umesh at the auction table since making his IPL debut in 2010.
