In the little Guyanaian village of Baracara, on August 31, 1999, Shamar Joseph was born. The family had five brothers and three sisters in the household when Joseph was born.

There was just one landline phone, one black-and-white television, and no internet access available in Baracara at the time.

Shamar Joseph eventually had to withdraw wounded and needed scans. Joseph would, however, make a solid return on Sunday to assist the West Indies in winning their first Test match in Australia since 1997.
