After India’s emphatic victory over Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, former cricketer Yograj Singh lauded Virat Kohli’s match-winning innings and Hardik Pandya’s resilience despite an apparent knee injury.
Kohli played a crucial knock of 84 runs, guiding India from 43/2 to successfully chase 265. His innings made a tricky run-chase look effortless while also breaking multiple records.
‘I feel his shot was unnecessary’ – Yograj Singh and Virat Kohli’s dismissal
Speaking to ANI, Yograj Singh expressed his views on Kohli’s wicket, saying, “Virat is a match-winner, but I feel his shot was unnecessary. He should have finished the game. He could have reached a century, and had India lost, his efforts would have been wasted. He changed the game today. People who criticize Virat, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill should stop. Support your players so that we keep progressing.”

Singh also praised Hardik Pandya for his impactful cameo of 28 off 24 balls, which included one four and three sixes. Despite seemingly twisting his knee, Pandya continued to bat and played a crucial role in sealing India’s victory.

“Cricket is a religion in our country. When these players give their blood and sweat for us, support them. When they fall, pick them up. Hardik’s knee was twisted, but he hit sixes and stood strong for his country. People should learn from this. Stay positive, win or lose. If you keep talking down a player, he may never rise again,” Singh said.
With this victory, India has booked a place in Sunday’s final, aiming to lift their first ICC Champions Trophy since 2013.
