Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill make huge strides in latest ICC T20I rankings

India’s batting stars, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, have made significant gains in the updated ICC T20I rankings on Wednesday. Yashasvi Jaiswal jumped two places to take the fourth spot in the rankings.

He now has 757 rating points to his name. Babar Azam, who has slipped one spot to number five, has 755 points. Yashasvi Jaiswal has had an outstanding year so far in international cricket.

He was part of India’s T20 World Cup squad but, unfortunately, couldn’t make it into the playing XI in a single game. However, the southpaw made great returns in the following T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

In three matches, he scored 141 runs at an average of 70.50 and a strike rate of 165.88. In the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, Jaiswal was the second-highest run-scorer for India, only behind Suryakumar Yadav.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has jumped sixteen places to take the 21st spot in the rankings. Gill led the team on the tour of Zimbabwe and finished as the leading run-getter.

In five T20Is, he hammered 170 runs at an average of 42.50. India’s new full-time captain in T20 internationals, Suryakumar Yadav continues to be at the second spot with 805 rating points.

Australia’s destructive opener, Travis Head tops the chart with 844 rating points against his name.

In the T20I bowling rankings, Ravi Bishnoi made a giant stride to enter in the top ten list. He jumped eight places to take the 10th spot with 635 rating points. Bishnoi was pivotal to India’s series victory against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

With six wickets in three matches, Bishnoi finished as the leading wicket-taker for India against Sri Lanka in the T20I series. Besides, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh has jumped four places to take the 19th spot.

Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the first player to score 1000 international runs in 2024

For the unversed, Yashasvi Jaiswal recently became the first player to score 1000 runs across formats in international cricket, this year. Making his debut last year, Jaiswal has made a huge impact at the biggest stage in a very short period.

Meanwhile, he achieved the big milestone in just 13 matches. His spectacular performance against England in the Test series remains his biggest highlight, this year. Jaiswal blazed his way to 712 runs in the series, which had two double-centuries.

He continued his pristine form in the T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Currently, he has 1033 runs to his name in 14 matches at an average of 60.76 in the year 2024.

Kusal Mendis also had a terrific year with the bat. He sits at second spot with 931 runs, while Ibrahim Zadran is at third with 844 runs.
