As long as Mahindra Singh Dhoni continues to be seen on the field with the roar of the “Yellow Jersey,”- there is no doubt that his legend in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will always remain immortal in the history of cricket.
MS Dhoni’s journey with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which started in 2008, brought much happiness to the faces of CSK fans. Dhoni’s astute leadership and ability to boost the morale of youngsters and read the game situation gave the CSK team the tag of a juggernaut. MS Dhoni has established his relationship with the “Yellow Army” forever by winning 5 IPL titles and 2 CL T20 wins. But Dhoni’s importance in IPL is more significant than titles or statistics.
Plus, Dhoni defined his finisher tag once again, creating match-winning strategies. On the other hand, his calm demeanor, even under pressure, and uncharacteristic poker face, even in the toughest game conditions, earned him the nickname “Captain Cool.”
Last season, Dhoni scored only 104 runs at a strike rate of more than 180, but this cameo was like refreshing the old memories for the fans. After playing the 2023 IPL, Dhoni also looks ready to play the 2024 IPL, but all the good memories do not last long.
Fitness icon MSD
Even before the IPL, he underwent surgery on his knee, which used a keyhole procedure for arthroscopic repair. Fitness icon MSD is participating in a rehabilitation program these days to stay fit, and recently, he was seen playing tennis with Rishabh Pant on social media. But even at 42, he is keeping himself fit like a youth. So, will we see him in the yellow jersey for the last time in IPL 2024?
While talking to Time Now, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said, “Dhoni himself will take the decision.”
“He just didn’t mention it; it will remain his call.” So far, he hasn’t told us anything,” he added.
A day earlier, during the IPL 2024 auction, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had discussed the “Succession Plan,” in which he said that this is something him that he has been thinking about for the last decade.
“We present succession plans for MSD. This is an important issue, but he is as enthusiastic today as when I saw him some time ago. “Although he is passionate about the team and the franchise, we will move forward,” Fleming continued.
Vishwanathan said, “Chennai Super Kings practice will start in the first week of March next year. “We are discussing making a camp for the first week of March.” There is speculation that IPL 2024 will start from March 22. As it is, our first camp will be confined to Chennai only for the first week,’’ he added.
“We have made all our strategies and have achieved the target to a great extent. We were talking with Daryl Mitchell about his batting. We think we’ll go with Mustafizur Rahman, with the side boundary on our Chepauk wicket. It will be a good decision. These were our strategies and targets, although we were not sure whether we would be able to achieve them. Fortunately, we have done the right auction this time,” Vishwanathan said.
