T20 World Cup 2024: Australia’s Semi-Final Path in Crucial Match Against India
India won their second T20 World Cup title after beating South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final

Indian team led by Rohit Sharma put on a phenomenal performance at the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, putting dominating performances against their opponents.

India couldn’t cross the final hurdle in the 2023 World Cup as they lost to Australia in the final. However, they ensured they brought the trophy home this time around. The fans shed tears of happiness as they celebrated India’s hard-fought victory against South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

After a gap of 11 years, India finally lifted an ICC title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. As for the record, this was their second T20 World Cup title in the tournament’s history.

In this article, let’s take a look at top three teams with the most number of T20 World Cup titles:

3. West Indies: 2014 and 2016

Known for producing big hitters, West Indies have two T20 World Cup titles under their name. West Indies won their first T20 World Cup title in 2012 after beating Sri Lanka in the final.

West Indies were bowled out for 136 runs in that match. Marlon Samuels starred with the bat, scoring 78 off 56. However, he lacked support from the other end. Despite scoring a low score, West Indies bundled out Sri Lanka for just 101, winning the game by 36 runs.

The Men from the Caribbean won their second T20 title in 2016. Needing 19 runs in the final against England, Carlos Brathwaite plundered Ben Stokes for four sixes to script history.

Once again, it was Marlon Samuels, who was sensational in the final. He played a match-winning knock of 85 off 66 deliveries.

2. England: 2010 and 2022

England won their first-ever ICC trophy in the 2010 edition of the T20 World Cup. Paul Collingwood’s team met Australia in the final in Barbados. Riding on a 59-run knock from M Hussey, Australia scored 147 runs in the first innings.

In reply, England chased down the score in just 17 overs, courtesy of brilliant knocks from C Kieswetter (63) and Kevin Pietersen (47). England repeated the feat in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Jos Buttler and Co. beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final to lift their second T20 World Cup title.

  1. India: 2007 and 2024

India is now the third team to have won two T20 World Cup titles. Legendary Indian captain, MS Dhoni led India to the title in the inaugural edition in 2007. A young Indian team took everyone by surprise with their fearless brand of cricket.

In the final, India met their arch-rivals Pakistan at Johannesburg. Batting first, India managed to score 157 runs in the first innings. The match went down to the final over and, in the end, India won the game by five runs.

Their second T20 World Cup title came after a wait of 17 years. Rohit Sharma and Co. beat every time that they played against. In the final, India compiled a score of 176 runs against South Africa. Virat Kohli, once again, stepped up when it mattered the most.

The run-machine played a match-winning knock of 76 runs in 59 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Fans won’t forget Axar Patel’s contribution with the bat, who came up the order and stitched the crucial partnership with Kohli. He amassed 47 runs in just 31 balls before, unfortunately, getting run-out. The Proteas came too close to script history but fell 7 runs short in the end.
