#5 – 219/6 by MI vs CSK, Delhi in 2021
In the 2021 edition of the IPL, the Mumbai Indians faced their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in the 27th match. This high-octane contest was held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. On the back of fifties from Faf du Plessis (50), Moeen Ali (58) and Ambati Rayudu (72*), CSK posted 218 on the board for the loss of four wickets.
In reply, Quinton de Kock (38) and skipper Rohit Sharma (35) gave MI a solid start. They lost their way a bit in the middle overs but Kieron Pollard’s sensational knock of 87* off 34 balls helped them chase down the total on the last ball with four wickets in hand.
#4 – 223/6 by MI vs PBKS, Mumbai in 2017
The Mumbai Indians hosted the Punjab Kings in the 51st match of the IPL 2017 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On a belter of a track, Wriddhiman Saha played a blazing knock of 93* at the top of the order to power the Punjab Kings to 230/3.
Chasing a mammoth total, Lendl Simmons (59) gave them a flying start. Kieron Pollard tried hard and remained unbeaten on 50 off just 24 balls but it wasn’t enough as they fell short by seven runs. The Kings held their nerves and emerged victorious.
#3 – 223/5 by RR vs CSK, Chennai in 2010
In the 32nd match of the third edition of IPL, Mural Vijay of Chennai Super Kings smashed a scintillating century and scored 127 off 56 balls to take his side to 246 at the end of their innings against the Rajasthan Royals.
On a turning track of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Naman Ojha laid the foundation with an unbeaten 94 and Shane Watson scored a quickfire 25-ball 60 but it wasn’t enough as the Royals finished their innings on 223/5 to lose the game by 23 runs.
#2 – 226/6 by RR vs PBKS, Sharjah in 2020
The ninth match of IPL 2020 was played at the Sharjah Cricket Ground in Sharjah. Mayank Agarwal of Punjab Kings smashed a brilliant century to help his side post 223 on the board at the end of their 20 overs. The Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers went on a journey.
In reply, Steven Smith (50), Sanju Samson (85) and Rahul Tewatia (53) hit fifties which helped them get across the line with three balls to spare with four wickets in hand. This remains the highest successful chase in the history of IPL.
#1 – 246/5 by SRH vs MI, Hyderabad in 2024
It was a run-fest in Hyderabad in the eighth match of the Indian Premier League 2024. The Sunrisers Hyderabad were asked to bat first at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium by the Mumbai Indians. Quickfire fifties from Travis Head (62), Abhishek Sharma (63) and Heinrich Klaasen (80*) powered them to 277/3.
Chasing the highest total in IPL, the MI batters got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Tilak Varma finished as the top-scorer for them with 64 as they ended their innings on 246/5 to lose the game by 31 runs. This is the highest second-innings total in the history of IPL.
