South Africa vs England Match Overview

South Africa (SA) faced England (ENG) in the 11th match of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday, March 1, at the National Stadium in Karachi. England won the toss and elected to bat. They were bundled out for just 179 runs in 38.2 overs. South Africa chased down the target of 180 runs in 29.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.

First Innings: English batters totally failed against the Proteas bowling attack

England were bowled out for just 179 runs against South Africa, marking the lowest total of the tournament. The innings began poorly, with Phil Salt dismissed in the first over, followed by Jamie Smith, leaving England reeling early. Despite efforts from Joe Root and Harry Brook to stabilize the innings, both fell victim to Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj’s clever bowling, respectively.

Captain Jos Buttler struggled throughout, managing only 21 runs before being caught off Lungi Ngidi, who celebrated his 100th ODI wicket. Jofra Archer provided a brief resistance with 25 runs, but the batting collapse continued, culminating in a meek end with Adil Rashid falling for just two runs.

South Africa’s bowlers were relentless, with Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder leading the charge, taking three wickets each, while Ngidi chipped in with two wickets.

Second Innings: Rassie van der Dussen led the charge with the bat for South Africa

South Africa’s chase was led by Rassie van der Dussen, who scored a brisk 72 runs off 87 balls. He showcased his aggressive batting style with six boundaries and three sixes. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed significantly, scoring 64 runs off 56 deliveries.

Jofra Archer was the standout performer for England with the ball and took two wickets for 55 runs in his nine overs. However, the lack of support from the rest of the bowling attack meant South Africa cruised to victory with 125 balls to spare, leaving England with a disappointing exit from the tournament.
