India’s Recent Test Struggles
India has been struggling in Test cricket. The team suffered a shocking 0-3 loss at home against New Zealand in late 2024. This was followed by a 1-3 series defeat in Australia. These losses ended India’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. The team’s red-ball form has raised serious questions about their approach in Test cricket.
Ganguly believes Rohit needs to perform better as a batter in Tests. He said that a player of Rohit’s ability should be scoring more runs in red-ball cricket.
Ganguly’s Advice for Rohit Sharma
Speaking at the Trailblazers 3.0 event by RevSportz, Ganguly said: “I am surprised by Rohit’s Test form in the last 4-5 years. A player of his talent should do much better. He must start thinking about his performances because the five Tests against England will be tough. The ball will seam and swing. India needs him to perform in red-ball cricket. In white-ball cricket, he is already one of the greatest ever.”
Ganguly added, “I am not surprised that Rohit has taken India to great heights in white-ball cricket. I don’t know if he will continue playing Tests, but if he does, he must take responsibility. India is struggling in red-ball cricket. They must find a way to play well in England. This five-Test series will be very important. Rohit has to lead the team and turn things around.”
India’s tour of England starts on June 20 and will be their first series in the new WTC cycle. The series is a big chance for India to recover, but it will be difficult as India has not won a Test series in England since 2007.
