Shubman Gill Focuses on Powerplay Improvement for Gujarat Titans IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has stressed the need to improve his team’s powerplay performance in IPL 2025.

Last season, GT had the lowest powerplay run rate of 7.72. Gill and his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, had strike rates of 131.08 and 115.49, respectively, in the first six overs. The team struggled throughout the tournament and finished eighth in the points table.

Speaking at GT’s press conference on March 19, Gill admitted that their poor starts hurt the team. He took responsibility for not playing the way he wanted, which affected GT’s overall performance.

Gill’s Plan for a Stronger Start

Gill said the team’s aim is to score as many runs as possible in the powerplay without losing too many wickets. “We didn’t play well in the powerplay last season, and that affected us even after that. We couldn’t qualify because we didn’t perform the way we wanted,” he said.

He acknowledged his role as an opener in setting the tone. “As a batsman, it’s my job to make sure we make the most of the powerplay. That is my focus, and hopefully, we will correct our mistakes from last season,” he added.

‘Playing Smart, Not Just Aggressive’ – Shubman Gill 

Shubman Gill also made it clear that GT is not looking to aim too high and lose wickets unnecessarily. He wants the team to assess conditions before setting targets.

“I don’t think we are trying to score 300 runs. That’s not our goal. We will look at the conditions and play accordingly. If the pitch allows us to get 240 or 250, we’ll go for it. But there might be situations where 150 or 160 is a good total,” Gill explained.

He believes adaptability is key to success. “If you only play one way, you are not adapting. A great team adjusts to the conditions and challenges thrown at them,” he said.

With a new approach, GT will look to make a strong comeback in IPL 2025 and perform better than last season.
