Australia’s left-handed batsman, Shaun Marsh has announced that he will be drawing curtains to his professional cricket career after Melbourne Renegades’ final match against Sydney Thunder in BBL 2023-24 on Wednesday. 

Shaun Marsh was a prolific run-scorer for Australia in International cricket. He represented his nation in 38 Tests, 73 ODIs, and 15 T20 internationals, scoring 2265, 2273, and 255 runs, respectively. 

The southpaw will finish his BBL career as the sixth-highest run-getter in the tournament. In 79 matches, he has 2810 runs to his name at an average of 40.72. Over the years, he has played several impactful knocks in the Big Bash League. Ahead of his farewell match, let’s recall his five top knocks in the Big Bash League: 

5. Shaun Marsh- 64 off 49 against Melbourne Stars, BBL 2023-24 

In what was Aaron Finch’s farewell match of his professional career on Saturday, Shaun Marsh played a blistering knock of 64 runs in 49 balls against Melbourne Stars. In pursuit of a 137-run knock, Marsh opened the innings for the team and played an unbeaten 64-run knock to help his team chase down the score in just 17.2 overs. The fans would be keen to witness a similar performance from him on Sunday. 

4. 82 off 53 against Brisbane Heat, BBL 2023 (KNOCKOUT) 

In the knockout game against Brisbane Heat during the 2023 edition of the Big Bash League, Shaun Marsh played a sensational knock of 82 runs in 53 balls while opening the innings for Melbourne Renegades. Despite wickets falling at the other end, he continued his fireworks and powered the team to a 162-run total. Unfortunately, Renegades couldn’t win the game as Brisbane Heat chased down the score with 7 balls remaining. 

3. 68 off 40 against Melbourne Stars, BBL 2013 

Playing for Perth Scorchers in the 2013 edition of the Big Bash League, Shaun Marsh played a match-winning knock of 68 runs in 40 deliveries, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. His impactful knock helped Scorchers chase down a revised target of 139 runs in 13 overs. 

Marsh earned the Man of the Match award for his stupendous performance with the bat. 

2. 99 off 52 against Melbourne Renegades in BBL 2011 

Shaun Marsh notched his highest total in BBL during the 2011 edition of the Big Bash League. After Perth Scorchers had notched 188 runs in the first innings, Shaun Marsh came out to open the batting with Herschelle Gibbs for Perth Scorchers. 

The duo wreaked havoc with the bat as they added 95 runs for the opening wicket in just 58 deliveries. Gibbs got out after playing a handy knock of 57 off 36 balls but Marsh was in no mood to spare the Renegades. He continued the fireworks and played an unbeaten knock of 99 runs in just 52 deliveries, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. 

His knock helped the team chase down the target in 19.2 overs. 

  1. 73 off 59 against Sydney Sixers in BBL 2015 (FINAL) 

Shaun Marsh’s best knock in his BBL career came in the final of the Big Bash League season 5 in the match between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers. In pursuit of a 148-run target, Shaun Marsh came out to open the batting with Michael Klinger for the Scorchers in the second innings. 

Marsh hit three fours and as many sixes en route to his 73-run match-winning knock from 59 deliveries. Marsh unfortunately got out in the 19th over and the game went down right till the end. But Scorchers in the end reached home to lift the title.
