Michael Vaughan Predicts IPL 2025 Winners and Top Performers: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made bold predictions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
The tournament starts on Saturday, March 22, with a match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens.
The 50-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator has picked the title winners and the players who will win the Orange and Purple Caps this season.
Gill and Chakaravarthy To Bag Top Honors
Vaughan has backed Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill to be the tournament’s highest run-scorer. He also picked KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy to take the most wickets.
Both players recently played key roles in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 win in Dubai. Gill became ICC Player of the Month for February, scoring back-to-back centuries against England and Bangladesh. He finished the tournament with 188 runs in five innings at an average of 75.50.

Vaughan Picks Mumbai Indians as IPL 2025 Champions
Vaughan has predicted that Mumbai Indians (MI) will lift the trophy this season. He shared his predictions on X (formerly Twitter):
“My IPL predictions … @mipaltan to win, @ShubmanGill top scorer, Varun Chakravarthy most wickets.”
This comes despite MI finishing last in the points table last season.
Mumbai Indians Face Challenges in Opening Match
Mumbai Indians will play their first match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, March 23, at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Captain Hardik Pandya will miss the match due to a slow-over rate ban from last season. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is also unavailable as he recovers from a back injury sustained during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
MI won their last IPL title in 2020. If they win this season, they will become the most successful IPL team, breaking their current tie with CSK (both have five titles each).
