Delhi Capitals has signed former England captain Kevin Pietersen as their mentor for the IPL 2025 tournament. This would be Pietersen’s first coaching stint with the IPL, having retired from cricket in 2016.
Delhi Capitals have also appointed some big names to their coaching staff. Hemang Badani is the new Head Coach, while Venugopal Rao is the Director of Cricket. Matthew Mott has been recruited as Assistant Coach, while veteran Indian pacer Munaf Patel has been appointed Bowling Coach. The franchise is still to appoint their captain for next season’s IPL following the release of Rishabh Pant.
Kevin Pietersen’s Stint with Delhi Capitals
Notably, Pietersen has played for the Delhi franchise before, when they were the Delhi Daredevils and even led the side in 2014. He was also the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009. The aggressive batter Pietersen was one of the most entertaining players to watch during his IPL days.

The retired cricketer is closely connected with the GMR Group, owners of Delhi Capitals. In October 2024, he assisted GMR in the purchase of Hampshire County, as h this deepened his relation with the franchise.
Delhi Capitals Journey in the Indian Premier League
Delhi Capitals have not been able to win an IPL title despite being in the tournament since 2008. They have made it to the final only once, as runners-up in 2020. With a new coaching staff and Pietersen’s guidance, the franchise will be expecting an improved performance in 2025.
