Ishan Kishan Shines in IPL 2025 Prep: Smashes Two Fifties in Intra-Squad Match

Ishan Kishan Shines in IPL 2025 Prep: Smashes Two Fifties in Intra-Squad Match: SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is preparing for IPL 2025 in style. He smashed two half-centuries in the same intra-squad match simulation on Saturday. With less than a week left for the tournament, Kishan outperformed his teammates, including India’s T20I batter Abhishek Sharma.

Ishan Kishan’s Explosive Batting Display in intra-squad Match

Ishan Kishan played an explosive knock of 64 runs off just 23 balls in his first innings. He then followed it up with another quickfire 73 off 30 balls. Kishan opened the innings with Abhishek, and the duo started aggressively in the powerplay. However, Abhishek fell early, scoring 28 off just 8 balls, caught at deep cover.

Despite his opening partner’s dismissal, Kishan continued his aggressive approach. He played some stunning shots and reached his half-century in no time. His knock ended in the 8th over when Kamindu Mendis took a caught-and-bowled dismissal.

In the second innings, Kishan came out to bat again with a 261-run target ahead of him. He once again dominated the bowlers. He even attacked Abhishek, who bowled in the second innings.

Ishan Kishan Released by Mumbai Indians

Kishan was released by Mumbai Indians (MI) last year and was picked by SRH for ₹11.25 crore in the IPL auction. However, SRH already has a strong opening pair in Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, two of the most explosive batters last season. This means Kishan might play at No. 3, a position he has played at times but is not his natural role.

Ishan Kishan Strikes after Losing BCCI Contract

Despite scoring a record-breaking ODI double-century (210 off 131 balls) against Bangladesh in December 2022, Kishan has struggled to secure a permanent spot in the Indian team. Shubman Gill was preferred over him as an opener, and he has since been sidelined in all formats.

In the wicketkeeper-batter role, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson have been given more chances in international cricket. Kishan also lost his BCCI central contract last year.

“For some reason, he has disappeared from the radar. No one is talking about him or realizing his value,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes IPL 2025 is Kishan’s best chance to revive his career.

With a strong IPL season, Kishan will hope to make a comeback into the Indian team.
