‘Pakistan have plenty of problems in the team’ – Irfan Pathan Backs India in Champions Trophy 2025 Clash Against Pakistan

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that the Indian team is well-equipped to handle pressure situations, giving Rohit Sharma’s side an advantage in their highly anticipated Champions Trophy encounter against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.

Notably, India started their campaign on a high note with a dominant six-wicket win over Bangladesh, while Pakistan suffered a huge 60-run defeat against New Zealand and currently sit at the bottom of the Group A standings.

Speaking to PTI Videos in Navi Mumbai on Friday, Irfan Pathan highlighted Pakistan’s struggles, especially in adapting to modern-day white-ball cricket.

“When it comes to Pakistan, look, they have plenty of problems in the team. As far as some of the senior guys (are concerned), they don’t play that kind of aggressive modern-day cricket, especially in white-ball cricket. So, can they change it? It’s very difficult. But more than the weaknesses and the strengths, it’s all about the India-Pakistan occasion. Whoever handles the occasion really well, that team wins,” Pathan said.

Pathan further emphasized that India has shown its ability to thrive under pressure in recent times.

“What we have seen in the recent past with the Indian team, we know how to handle a tough situation and the big occasion as well. As far as the talent is concerned, we are far ahead, especially in one-day cricket,” he stated.

The former all-rounder also praised India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami, who recently became the fastest Indian bowler to claim 200 ODI wickets after his match-winning five-wicket haul against Bangladesh.

“(It was) good to see Mohammed Shami get a fifer. He will get a lot of confidence out of it as well because after injury, coming back on the field, it’s not easy, especially for fast bowlers (but) he did well,” Pathan remarked.

Irfan Pathan expressed confidence in India’s well-rounded squad as the team gears up for their upcoming fixture against their arch rivals Pakistan.
