First Innings: Shreyas Iyer guide Punjab Kings to their second-highest total

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings for the Punjab Kings. Shreyas Iyer joined Priyansh in the middle after Prabhsimran’s dismissal. The duo added 51 runs for the second wicket.

Iyer remained in the middle till the end of the 20th over. Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh provided the finishing touch to the innings. Stoinis scored 20 runs off 15 deliveries, while Shashank made an unbeaten 44 runs off 16 deliveries. Iyer missed on a well-deserved century and remained not out on 97 runs off 42 deliveries. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers for GT and took three wickets for 30 runs in four overs.

Second Innings: Gujarat Titans couldn’t convert the start they received

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill added 61 runs for the first wicket for GT. Gill made 33 runs off 14 deliveries before departing in the sixth over. Jos Buttler came out to bat next and had a decent partnership with Sudharsan. The duo added 84 runs for the second wicket. Sudharsan played a splendid knock of 74 runs off 41 deliveries.

Sherfane Rutherford came as a substitute and started hitting right from the first ball. Buttler and Rutherford had a partnership of 54 runs which was broken by Marco Jansen. Chasing the target of 244 runs was always going to be a tough task. GT finished with 232 runs for the loss of five wickets and fell short of the target by 11 runs.

Key Moments & Turning Points 

Vijaykumar Vyshak came in as a substitute for PBKS at the end of the 13th over. He bowled the 15th over and gave away just five runs. The momentum shifted towards PBKS after that. Vyshak gave away 28 runs form his three overs and changed the course of the match.

Both teams had a terrific outing with the bat and would want to continue bat this way. The first five games have made it clear that it is going to be really dififcult for bowlers this year.

PBKS will now meet Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, April 1, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. GT will take on Mumbai Indians in their next outing on Saturday, March 29, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
