Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) faced Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) in the 13th match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 on Friday, February 28, at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

DC-W won the toss and elected to bowl. MI-W managed just 123 runs for the loss of nine wickets. No batter managed to go-past the 20-run mark for the team. DC-W chased down the target of 124 runs in 14.3 overs with nine wickets in hand.

First Innings: Mumbai Indians Women failed to score big with the bat

In a disappointing batting display, MI-W managed to post only 123 runs for the loss of nine wickets, marking the second-lowest total of this season. After a promising start from Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia, who provided a solid opening partnership, MI-W faltered as wickets tumbled in quick succession. Key players Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt attempted to stabilize the innings but fell victim to Jess Jonassen, who claimed two crucial wickets in consecutive overs.

DC-W’s bowlers showcased exceptional skill, with Jess Jonassen leading the charge, taking three wickets for just 21 runs. Annabel Sutherland also made a significant impact, claiming one wicket and executing a stunning catch to dismiss Amelia Kerr.

Second Innings: Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma helped Delhi Capitals Women reach the top of the table

In a commanding performance, DC-W chased down a target of 124 runs with ease, winning by nine wickets and with 33 balls to spare. The Capitals’ openers set the tone during the powerplay, racing to 57 runs without loss. Shafali Verma was particularly explosive, scoring 43 runs off just 28 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, before being caught by Amelia Kerr.

Captain Meg Lanning, who had struggled in previous matches, found her form with a solid innings, scoring 60 runs off 49 balls and hitting the winning runs. The partnership between Lanning and Verma was crucial, marking DC-W’s highest partnership against MI-W in the WPL.

  • Lanning won the Player of the Match award.

  • Mani was the pick of the bowlers for DC-W.
  • She took three wickets for 17 runs in three overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians Women)

  • Harmanpreet scored 22 runs off 16 deliveries for MI-W.
  • She hit two fours and one six.

Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals Women)

  • Shafali opened the innings with Lanning.
  • She scored 43 runs off just 28 deliveries before getting dismissed in the 10th over.

Jess Jonassen (Delhi Capitals Women)

  • Jonassen won the Player of the Match award.
  • She took the wickets of the in-form batters Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur.
  • She finished with three wickets for 25 runs in four overs. 

Delhi Capitals Women vs Mumbai Indians Women Match Summary

DC-W have reached the pinnacle of the points table this season with a win in this game. They have now won four out of six matches and have maintained a positive net run rate. MI-W have slipped to second place with three wins in two games.

DC-W will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women and Gujarat Giants Women in their next two matches, respectively. MI-W are left with three matches against UP Warriorz Women, Gujarat Giants Women, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women.
