First Innings: A complete batting effort helped RCB post their third-highest total at Chepauk

Phil Salt and Virat Kohli once again provided a fiery start to RCB this season. The duo added 45 runs for the first wicket before Noor Ahmad dismissed Salt for a score of 32 runs off 16 deliveries. Devdutt Padikkal came out to bat next and played a quick knock of 27 runs off 14 deliveries. 

After Paddikal got out, skipper Rajat Patidar joined Kohli in the middle. The duo had a partnership of 41 runs for the third wicket before Kohli departed in the 13th over. Patidar scored 51 runs off 32 deliveries.

Tim David hit three sixes in the end and led RCB to a total of 196 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers and took three wickets for 36 runs in four overs.

Second Innings: RCB’s bowlers helped the team achieve a historical win

CSK didn’t have a decent start and lost three wickets in the power play. The team lost seven wickets before reaching the 100-run mark. Rachin Ravindra scored 41 runs off 31 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the team. MS Dhoni came out to bat in the ninth position and remained unbeaten on 30 runs off 16 deliveries.

CSK finished with 146 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 50 runs. RCB won a game at the Chepauk after 17 years.

Key Moments & Turning Points 

CSK dropped three catches of Rajat Patidar and he went on to score a half-century. Patidar’s innings helped RCB post 196 runs on the board. RCB opened the bowling with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. They gave away 26 runs in the first five overs and took three wickets. CSK couldn’t recover from these setbacks and ultimately lost the match.

  • It was the fifth-best bowling figure for an RCB bowler against CSK.

  • Patidar won his third Player of the Match award in the IPL.
  • He was dismissed for a single-digit score in his first three outings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

  • CSK lost the match by 50 runs, making it their third-biggest defeat by runs at Chepauk.

RCB won their second game of the season. They recorded their first win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for the first time since 2008.

They will now face Gujarat Titans at their home venue and will walk into that game with very high expectations. CSK will take on Rajasthan Royals next and will travel to Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
