Brisbane to Get a New Stadium at Victoria Park After 2032 Olympics: The iconic Gabba in Brisbane will be replaced by a new stadium after the 2032 Olympics. Queensland’s Premier, David Crisafulli, announced the plan on Tuesday. The new stadium will be built at Victoria Park and will cost $3.8 billion. It will have a seating capacity of 63,000.
Gabba’s Future and New Plans
Crisafulli said the Gabba has been a great venue for many years. However, he pointed out that it has some challenges. He said Queensland must upgrade its infrastructure to continue hosting top cricket events. These include the Men’s and Women’s Ashes Series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and ICC tournaments.

The new stadium will be a multipurpose venue. It will host not only cricket but also AFL and rugby games. This will help Queensland attract more international sports events.
Official Statement on the New Stadium
Crisafulli spoke to the media about this decision. He said it gives clarity about Brisbane’s sporting future.
“There is now the opportunity for Queensland to attract the world’s best cricket events. This includes ICC tournaments, the Ashes Series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and BBL and WBBL matches. Today’s decision gives us certainty after many years without clarity,” he said, as per The Indian Express.
Focus on Multipurpose Use
Before this announcement, the Gabba’s future was unclear. The only confirmed international match at the venue for the 2025-26 season was the Men’s Ashes Test. There were discussions about either redeveloping the Gabba or replacing it. Now, the Queensland council has confirmed that a new stadium will be built.
Crisafulli said this decision will help in planning future sporting events. He emphasized the need for a venue that can host different sports.
“This decision gives us certainty about venues and scheduling. It allows Brisbane to host the best international and domestic cricket. We strongly supported building a stadium in Victoria Park along with Queensland Cricket, the AFL, and the Brisbane Lions. Cricket will play a key role in making sure this investment benefits fans and the people of Queensland,” Crisafulli said.
The construction of the new stadium will begin after the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.
