Bangladesh vs New Zealand Highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: New Zealand won by 5 wickets

Bangladesh vs New Zealand Match Overview

Bangladesh and New Zealand faced each other in the sixth match of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Monday, February 24, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl. Bangladesh finished with a total of 236 runs for the loss of nine wickets. New Zealand chased down the target of 237 runs in 46.1 overs with five wickets in hand.

First Innings: Bangladesh’s Batting Performance

Bangladesh managed to post a total of 236 runs for the loss of nine wickets. The innings saw Najmul Hossain Shanto stand out with a resilient performance, scoring 77 runs, while Jaker Ali contributed a valuable 45 runs.

Despite some intent from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, their efforts fell short as they struggled to build partnerships, with Michael Bracewell wreaking havoc on the batting lineup.

Bracewell was the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming four crucial wickets that dismantled Bangladesh’s middle order. Matt Henry also made significant contributions, taking two wickets, including the key dismissal of Rishad Hossain, who had been scoring quickly with 26 runs.

Second Innings: New Zealand’s Run Chase

New Zealand showcased a dominant batting performance against Bangladesh, securing an easy victory to advance to the semifinals. Rachin Ravindra was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant 112 off 105 balls, while Tom Latham contributed a solid 55 runs. The pair built a crucial partnership of 129 runs for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings after a shaky start.

Michael Bracewell played a key role in the latter stages, finishing the match with a quickfire knock and helping New Zealand chase down the target with ease. Bangladesh’s bowling attack struggled to contain the Kiwis, with Nahid Rana being the most effective bowler, taking one wicket for 38 runs.

Taskin Ahmed also claimed a wicket early on, dismissing Finn Allen, but the lack of support from the other bowlers allowed New Zealand to set a comfortable pace throughout their innings. Ultimately, Bangladesh’s inability to defend a modest total led to their exit from the tournament alongside Pakistan.
