History Repeats – CSKโs 5 Worst IPL Starts ft. IPL 2025 Breakdown: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. They have won five titles and have been to the playoffs 12 times. However, even the best teams have off days. CSK too have had bad starts in some seasons. The IPL 2025 season is one of them.

#5 – IPL 2009: 2 victories in first 6 matches (1 abandoned)
The 2009 IPL took place in South Africa. CSK lost the opening match against Mumbai Indians. They defeated RCB by 92 runs next but lost against Delhi. The match against KKR was washed out. CSK also lost to Deccan Chargers but came back winning against Rajasthan Royals. CSK reached the semifinals but got defeated by RCB.

#4 – IPL 2010: 2 wins in first 6 games
CSK started the season with a defeat against Deccan Chargers. They then defeated KKR but lost three consecutive games, including a Super Over defeat to Punjab. In spite of the poor start, CSK picked up and eventually won their first IPL title under MS Dhoni.
#3 – IPL 2020: 2 wins in first 6 games
This year was played in the UAE because of COVID-19. CSK won their first game against MI but lost the subsequent three games. A huge win against Punjab followed, but they did not make it to the playoffs that season.
#2 – IPL 2022: 1 win in first 6 games
Following their victory in 2021, CSK had a tough time in 2022. They lost four consecutive games before defeating RCB. However, the team could not gain momentum and ended at ninth position on the table with just four wins out of 14 matches.
#1 – IPL 2025: 1 win in first 6 games
CSK began the season by beating Mumbai Indians. But they have lost five consecutive games. Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured and did not play, and MS Dhoni came back as captain. CSK then had their worst defeat (by balls remaining) to KKR. They were bowled out for 103 at Chepauk, and KKR completed the target with 59 balls remaining. CSK could again miss the playoffs if they do not shape up.
