CSK Struggles Grow in IPL 2025 After Third Straight Defeat
CSK’s downfall started with a heavy 50-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home. This was RCB’s first win at Chepauk since IPL 2008. CSK then lost to Rajasthan Royals in a close game in Guwahati, falling short by just six runs.

The most recent setback was against Delhi Capitals, who beat CSK by 25 runs. It was Delhi’s first win at Chepauk in 15 years. Their last win there came in 2010, when they were still known as Delhi Daredevils.
These losses mark a worrying trend for CSK, especially at their home ground, where they have usually been dominant.
Early Jitters Hurt CSK Again – Gaikwad Calls for Calm in Powerplay
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad addressed the team’s issues after the match. He pointed to the powerplay phase as the biggest concern. “It’s not just today; it’s been an issue since the second game,” said Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Against Delhi, CSK restricted the visitors to 184 runs, but could only manage to reach 158 for 5 in response. In the powerplay, they lost three wickets for just 46 runs. Even the return of opener Devon Conway didn’t help.
So far, CSK have the lowest powerplay run rate in IPL 2025 – just 7.4 runs per over. Gaikwad said the team might be overthinking in the early overs. “We are losing a wicket in the first or second over. Maybe we’re too concerned about who is bowling,” he added.
With three losses in four games, CSK need to regroup quickly. Fans will hope the team finds its rhythm before it’s too late.
