On the opening day of the Ashes Test match at Edgbaston, Joe Root captain of the England cricket team, achieved a remarkable fame by scoring his 30th century in Test cricket. Root’s unbeaten score of 118 not out was the highlight of the day on that pitch. This was his fourth century against Australia but his first since 2015 which is commendable.With this century, Root has now equalled the records of Matthew Hayden and Shivnarine Chanderpaul on this all-time list. He is just 3 centuries away from surpassing Alastair Cook record of 33 centuries for England.
Team England made an interesting decision by declaring their innings on the first evening when their score had reached 393 for the loss of eight wickets. They had scored at a decent pace throughout the day, averaging more than five runs per over.
