Indian batter, Abhishek Sharma said that his mentor Yuvraj Singh was happy after he got out on zero on his international debut for India.
Abhishek Sharma, recently, made his international debut in the first T20I match against Zimbabwe on Saturday. Unfortunately, he got on zero on his fourth delivery of the match. However, he made a storming comeback as he scored his first international century in the second game.
Following his brilliant knock, he said that Yuvraj Singh was delighted for reasons not known to him after he got out for a duck in the first T20I. Interestingly, Yuvraj Singh termed that as a ‘Good Start.
“I spoke to him yesterday (Saturday) also, and I don’t know why he was very happy when I got out on zero. He said that’s a good start but he must be very happy and proud just like my family,” Abhishek said in a video posted by BCCI.
Abhishek Sharma showed his power-hitting ability in the second T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. He brought up his first T20I international century off just 46 balls, a knock with seven fours and as many as eight sixes.
It is worth mentioning that Yuvraj Singh has played a major role in Abhishek Sharma’s rise in the game. Acknowledging the same, here’s what Abhishek Sharma said:
“It’s all because of him as well, the hard work he has put in (shaping) me. (For) two-three years, he has worked really hard not only on my cricket but off the field (life) as well.”
Abhishek had a conversation with Yuvraj Singh once again after he scored a century in the second T20I. The latter was pretty happy and wished Sharma many more such knocks in the future.
“Well done very proud, you deserve it. Many more (such innings) to come this is just the start,” Yuvraj said.
Yuvraj Singh also took to his ‘X’ account to heap praise on Abhishek Sharma.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day! Congratulations @IamAbhiSharma4 on the journey to your first International 100! Many more to come #AbhishekSharma #INDvsZIM,” the former India batter shared on ‘X’.
In the second T20I, once again, skipper Shubman Gill got out early after scoring just two runs. However, Abhishek Sharma put on a brilliant partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead the fightback.
The duo added 137 runs for the second wicket and, thereby, set the foundation for a big score. Abhishek Sharma hammered 100 off just 47 deliveries, while Ruturaj Gaikwad also played a brilliant knock of 77 off 47 balls. Rinku Singh gave the final flourish with a power-packed knock of 48 off 22.
Courtesy of all those contributions, India managed to scale 234 runs in the first innings. In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out for just 134 runs.
