The T20 World Cup 2024 ended with an edge-of-a-thriller clash between India and South Africa on 29th June 2024. South Africa stunned the world with their emphatic performance in the tournament, especially in the semi-final against Afghanistan.

- Highest score in Men’s T20 World Cup:
India notched the highest score ever in the final of a T20 World Cup. South Africa had reduced them to 34 for 3 in 4.3 overs. However, brilliant knocks from Virat Kohli (76 off 59) and Axar Patel (47 off 31) took them to 176 at the end of the first innings. With that score, they surpassed Australia to create the record for notching the highest score in the T20 World Cup.
Earlier, Australia held the record for scoring 173 runs against New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup final.
2. Most Wickets in a single series
T20 World Cup 2024 wasn’t just about big hits and big scores. The bowlers made life tough for the opposition, thanks to assistance from the pitch. Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi and India’s Arshdeep Singh finished with the most wickets at the end of the tournament.
Both players picked 17 wickets each, which is now a record for the most wickets by a bowler in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
3. Best bowling average:
Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the Player of the tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He didn’t pick the most number of wickets but the impact he created throughout the tournament was second to none. There wasn’t a single opposition who could dominate the Indian bowler.
He applied pressure with his consistent lines and disciplined lengths. He, in fact, now holds the record for having the best average in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
In eight matches, he picked up 15 wickets at an average of 8.27.
4. First unbeaten team to win the T20 World Cup
Team India became the first ever team in the history of the T20 World Cup, who remained unbeaten and won the T20 World Cup 2024. No team in the tournament’s history has managed to achieve the feat.
India beat the likes of Pakistan, the United States of America, and Ireland to progress into the Super 8s. They squared up with Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan in the super-eight and beat all of them.
India met England in the semi-final and defeated them by 68 runs. This was followed by an emphatic 7-wicket win over South Africa in the final.
5. Best Economy Rate
Jasprit Bumrah also created the record for the best economy rate in a single T20 World Cup edition. In eight matches, he picked up 15 wickets at an exceptional economy rate of 4.18. Previously, the record was held by Sunil Narine, who had an economy rate of 4.60 in the 2014 T20 World Cup.
