New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a hamstring injury. Ferguson has picked up 99 wickets in 65 ODI matches for the Kiwis and was part of the last two World Cups. Kyle Jamieson has replaced Lockie Ferguson in the squad ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 season opener between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand.
Jamieson has picked up 14 wickets in 13 ODI matches for New Zealand, with his best figures of 3/45. He made his ODI debut against India in Auckland on February 8, 2020 and last played a One Day International match against Bangladesh on September 23, 2023. Jamieson returned with figures of 2/23 in seven overs, including one maiden. The 30-year-old picked up the wickets of Liton Das and Nasum Ahmed.

Lockie Ferguson picked up an injury while playing for Desert Vipers in the International League T20 (ILT20) in the United Arab Emirates this month. He missed the last two matches with the Vipers in the ILT20 2025 and was ruled out of the ODI Tri-Series involving hosts Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa.
The 33-year-old pacer returned to action during a warm-up match against Afghanistan on February 16. He bowled three overs and returned with figures of 0/17 and was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Tuesday (February 18).

Earlier, New Zealand suffered a blow with pacer Ben Sears being ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Matt Henry will serve as the nation’s lead pacer and will be supported by Kyle Jamieson, Will O’Rourke, Jacob Duffy, and Nathan Smith.
